The dry leaves appear dark brown with a glossy sheen, tightly rolled and delicate in texture. Known for its distinctive betel nut fragrance, it was designated as an imperial tribute during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty and became prized for its deep red liquor, rich flavour, mellow taste, and rich aged aroma.
