This lot has been preserved in mild dry storage. From its robust and thick leaves, it can be identified as a Hao Grade tea from the Republican era or earlier. Most Hao Grade teas were made from Yiwu Zhengshan large leaf varieties, prized for their strong flavour and lingering aged aroma, qualities seldom matched by later Pu-er teas. During this period, tea houses operated as private enterprises, relying solely on the quality and reputation of their products. Each developed its own distinctive craftsmanship, from the careful selection of tea leaves to the refined techniques of rolling and compression.
